Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB)

A moulded case circuit breaker (MCCB) is an electrical protection device used to protect electrical circuits from excessive current, which can cause overload or short circuit. It's commonly used in industrial and commercial settings due to its ability to handle higher current ratings and adjustable trip settings compared to miniature circuit breakers (MCBs).

Key Components and Functions:

How it Works:

  1. Normal Operation: When the current flowing through the MCCB is within the rated limits, the breaker remains closed, allowing power to flow.
  2. Overload Protection: If the current exceeds the rated value for an extended period, the thermal element heats up and eventually trips the breaker, interrupting the power supply.
  3. Short Circuit Protection: If a short circuit occurs, the magnetic element detects the sudden, high current and trips the breaker immediately, preventing damage to the circuit and equipment.
